PHILIPPINES, PUT IT BACK ON!: 130119 DREAM KPOP FANTASY CONCERT
Months of waiting and anticipation, with /cannot be contained feels/ and butterflies fluttering inside my tummy for days, the 19th day of January 2013 finally arrived!
Well actually, it's a very long story and since it is my first kpop concert, there had been a lot of first's that came with it as well. I would like to recall every bit of it so when the time comes that I'll back read my first ever concert experience and would probably be one of the highlights of my fangirl life, I'll be able to picture everything clearly as if the post had take me back to the day itself.
I should probably start on that one afternoon of January 18 when it all started.
Coming from work, I was late, for a good fifteen minutes I think, because of the heavy traffic along West Avenue, specifically that road approaching Paramount. Ap, who's with me, was obviously annoyed because she's waiting for too long but we're all giggly and excited to even be really angry, haha! It's both our first kpop concert experience and we've been fans since 2010 so two years of waiting and finally! We'll be able to taste what it's like to wave your light sticks and watch your oppars and unnirs perform onstage. The MRT ride was filled with little squeaks, more chatters, and sighs because omg! Our idols are almost within our reach!
On the way to Mall of Asia (Grounds) where the concert will be held, Ap had been in contact with our online friends, OSM Sae and Dee, because apparently they were around the area and were asking to meet up. We were pretty excited even if the concert wouldn't happen for another 20 hours!
Reaching MoA we immediately headed towards the place we assumed our friends will be. They mentioned something about Starbucks at the back of the mall and since both Ap and I aren't familiar with MoA, we just assumed (again) that the building we entered was the place they were talking about. There's a Starbucks in the building and we stood in front of it for a couple of minutes while Ap tried to contact our friends. While waiting, songs from U-Kiss could be heard from where we were and although we're grinning like idiots because OMFG WE'RE REALLY HERE WE'RE GOING TO SEE THEM TOMORROW!! we restrained ourselves on running towards the direction of the sounds because ahh calm your tits girl those are just audios anyway. It was a different story though when voices talking in Korean were heard and Ap and I both knew that there's a possibility they were rehearsing right now alright. We still couldn't find our friends and I told Ap to just inform them that we were heading in MoA Grounds and meet them there (I'm not entirely sure of this part gahd it's been 8 months I'm sorry it took me this long to complete this hahaha)
Walking towards the actual venue, we were giggling and giddy like mad men. The stage was already set, there were lights and poles and screens and everything inside were all set up. We also found a Starbucks right before the entrances and found our friends there (lol) but we didn't hurry to meet them because right at the venue stage we found U-Kiss performing. PUTA.
It wasn't the first time I've seen a Kpop artist (hello baby donghae!) but DKFC was my first Kpop concert EVER. And the feels were just all over the place because finally, FINALLY, more than two years of being in the kpop fandom and I'm going in a concert.
It also surprised us that the Gold Section (our ticket) was unbelievably close to the second stage. It was so near!! We thought it'll be like really far and it would be hard to spot Kyungsoo or Baekhyun (since they're the cute little midgets lol) but it was really close and we couldn't thank the production for setting up a stage as "in our faces" as that.
Some fan girls were gathered around the entrances and we were free to watch the rehearsal. We arrived a little late so after Man Man Hani (one of the few U-Kiss songs I know and my favorite after Bingeul Bingeul), the rehearsal was done. We waited for a few more wishing another group would perform (Infinite specifically since EXO and SNSD haven't arrived that time) but nothing came so we finally decided to went off with our friends lol. TAHITI rehearsed after quite some time but they weren't that popular in our country so no one actually paid attention lol (except from the few usisera fan girls and photographer unnies.)
[Continuing this stuff right now OMFG it's January 9, 2014 already people how about a year late for this entry HAHAHA]
We ate with our friends and their friends (because we're not friends with them LOL) and after that, around 7 in the evening, Dee's relatives came to pick them up and go home. They were insistent on taking us home with them HAHA because they just couldn't believe (or accept lol I still think they found us ridiculous back then) that we will be spending the night in the venue just to queue up.
After a few minutes of persuasion, they gave up eventually and bid goodbye. And so Ap and I were left with just the two of us again plus a couple of usisera fan girls who were waiting, hoping, for another group to perform.
Some time later, people left for home one by one and holy fucking cricket WE'RE THE ONLY ONES WHO THOUGHT OF CAMPING OVERNIGHT!!!! It was really insane and funny and just really pathetic on my part that moment because here we are, thinking we needed to do this shit in order to be first in line only to later on discover that you don't have any competition in the first place. But then again, I guess this whole overnight thing was one of the reasons why we're so fueled up for the real thing the next day (I'll talk about it later.)
Since we didn't really need to save our spot, we decided to check the place and looked for the nearest restrooms, convenience store or restaurant. There's a 24/7 Starbucks just right infront of the Gold Entrance and since we're both noobs and I refused to spend so much that night, we were thankful for finding another 24/7 McDonalds and 7-Eleven just around the corners.
Done wandering around and finally settling in, we met another camper and it somehow lifted our spirits because oh yes, we aren't the only pathetic ones n_n;; She's from the Bronze Section and her name is Nika. I'm still regretful I didn't get to ask for her Twitter account because she's really nice ;; A little while after, some people gathered before the VIP/Platinum Entrance and we figured they're camping out for their spot too. Still few compared to what we expected, but at least we're not alone so yay !!^^
Around 1 in the morning (lol I'm not really sure it's not like I was tracking time back then HAHA), a group of friends arrived and lined up for Gold. I forgot their names but most of them are SONEs and achieved their tickets by winning contests from the previous DKFC Fiesta (wow!) We had our introductions and settled ourselves exactly before the entrance, sharing remarks here and there, asking for bias groups and the likes, humming and singing to kpop songs, and waiting for the sun to rise HAHA!
Probably twenty minutes after we're almost comfortable in our position, production staff approached us and told us we couldn't stay there. Of course we're all WHAT??!!!
Apparently they really had to move us and put some barricades around all the entrances so we, together with the campers from other entrances, were forced to evacuate and transfer to the other side of the road.
The whole queuing was such a disaster. We didn't know where we could line up, concert staff will tell us something and then the MoA people will say we couldn't do that. It was really stressful and annoying and we didn't have enough sleep or proper meal that we were just really drained out and all we wanted was to enter the venue.
There was even a point (around noon and there were hundreds of fans still clueless where to line up waiting) when someone said we could line up already and Ap (lol I think she was distressed the most back then) swiftly jumped over the barricade and ran to the entrance, HAHA. But then later on, they announced it wasn't time yet and forced us out of the barricade again OTL
It was already 2 or 3 in the afternoon (gates were supposed to open at 3) and there were still no clear queue for Gold, Silver and Bronze.
I don't know if they're just not prepared enough or they underestimate how Kpop fans usually act but right now my perspective of MoA people are really disappointing. They can't handle crowds, they don't have an organized plans and back-ups. I've been to a MoA concert twice for 2013 (since I'm writing it at January 9, 2014 haha) and both had really poor reviews in terms of their security and organizing.
By the time we were allowed to pass through the barricade, a mini-stampede happened due to the fact that stupid staff thought it would be a great idea to shove Gold, Silver and Bronze people in one corner and then announced that the entrance for Gold would be on the other way. I can still remember having no choice but to push this little Unnie because the crowd was pushing me so we could go to where the Gold ticket holders should be. It was a disaster omfg. I don't know what happened to her after that, but I hope she managed to find her spot again and enjoyed the concert ;;
Ap came in first, the guard got pissed off just as I was handing the ticket because of the constant pushing and people refused to fall in line so they closed the entrance for a while (IKR JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO ENTER) Ap rushed to line up, and a few minutes later I managed to follow. WE WERE FIRST IN LINE!!! (well not really first but probably included in the first 10) And we just couldn't hide the smiles on our faces because fuck, nearing 24 hours of stress and pain and blood and sweat and we're here, FINALLY.
We still stood for two hours I think before we're allowed to go in. EXO rehearsed while we're in queue and the people were screaming and chanting (Ap and I started the chant for MAMA huehuehue.) Around 5 (the sun was still up), the gates finally opened and front row baby! Just against the barricades and we couldn't wish for anything better 8D
We already knew that the stage would be close but we didn't expect it would be really close (and we were in Gold already!) Like I could clearly see their faces when they're on the second stage and the ramps. Audience started to fill the place. The sun was also starting to set. Lights were on and sound checks were very much alive. Lighsticks ready, this was it! It's DKFC!!
I forgot his name but a certain singer opened the show! I think it's Mike Chan something (lol all i remembered was Caleb from XLR8 was his backing vocals.) The Top 19 dancers for the DKFC dance contest performed a kpop medley (with us chanting our lungs out from excitement) and Kring Elenzano (Internet blogger for My Korean Boyfriend) hosted the event.
The performers were as follows:
INFINITE: When The Chaser started playing I was already shaking in feels. I screamed and called out for their names. I couldn't remember most of their perfs because I was busy filming them (which I highly regret because as you can see, I don't recall the most part of it.) The music went off twice, for BTD and Be Mine I think? Sungyeol looked pissed LOL. Woohyun was cheerful as usual and so was Hoya and Dongwoo. I didn't see much of Sunggyu and Sungjong as they were mostly on the other side (we're situated on the left side facing the stage.) L IS SUPER GWAPO THAT FUCKER. I think I was really fortunate that night because my biases kept on coming in our section (L even stopped and posed in our corner and let the fans took pictures of him, THE PLATINUM SECTION WERE THE LUCKIEST!)
TASTY: Best fan service! I already knew of Tasty because I've been following Infinite for the last part of 2012 and when Woollim announced the debut of their duo, I took time to see what they're made of. Their single You Know Me is really catchy (Ap still can't get enough of it, she heard it first during their perf in DKFC.) They were really sweet and nice to their fans. It was great cheering for them ^^
U-KISS: I am not a big fan of them and I don't follow their songs but I do acknowledge them as one of the popular groups here in the Philippines. I do know Man Man Hani and Binggeul Binggeul and is familiar with some of their members. Kiseop kind of gave me Hyukjae feels that night, I couldn't take my eyes off him, so gwapo *^* And Dongho owned Man Man Hani, hehehe.
TAHITI: lol, I remember when U-Kiss finished the fans kept saying "Pahinga na! (We can rest!)" because Tahiti were considered as the only "nugu" group in the set of performers. I didn't know Tahiti either lol. They only have two known songs as they were a rookie group too (I think?) and when they finished their second song they exited the stage. The audience thought they're done and started chanting for the next performer (which happened to be EXO). No one even bothered to wonder why Tahiti were so quick n_n;; Since we were there during their rehearsals the night before, we knew they'll be performing something more (we heard/saw them performed Wannabe and Gangnam Style.) And true to that, in the middle of the screams for EXO, the girls of Tahiti appeared again and performed the two songs. I remember hearing someone from my left said, "Ay sila pa pala. (Oh, it's still them.)" and her friend went "Oo nga. Nakakahiya. (Yeah. It's embarassing.)" [because people chanted EXO's name when their performance wasn't done yet.]
The girls of Tahiti were really nice, just like Tasty. They were the least recognized groups (and probably the least number of fans who attended that night) but they were the sweetest. The girls kept throwing hearts and smiling to everyone (I personally think they were more enthusiastic than Girls' Generation that night lol don't slap me.) One of them even cried while singing their last song. They were very cute and adorable. And I think they managed to win a heart or two that night ^^
EXO: Well of course what we would be expecting from this already popular, phenomenal boy group. LUHAN WAS ALWAYS ON MY SIDE OMG HE'S LIKE A DOLL IN REAL LIFE. so thin and so.... dazzling ;; Like seriously, I was blinded.
The highlight of their performance was Hawak Kamay of course. Kyungsoo is the most adorable thing ever!! (LOL I looked like I didn't enjoy their performance but I did, I was screaming my lungs off that time! But I'm having mixed feelings for these boys right now lol sorry not sorry.)
Oh I remember this one part during their interview where Kring said they were so popular in PH right now, do they think they can surpass the popularity of Super Junior (the most popular band in our country) and boy didn't I love it when the audience started saying "Noooooo" not because they think EXO couldn't surpass SuJu but because they knew one shouldn't be asking something like that, lels. Kring took it back and changed it to something like "on the same level" i think? Kris just awkwardly laughed it off while Suho (i think?) said he respected their seniors. Nyaha ala lang.
SNSD: All I remember about their performance was that it was so quick. And as if they wanted nothing else but to get it over and done n_n;; I remembered them getting ready for the next song but Kring had to interview them. I couldn't recall much with Gee and I Got A Boy because Ap felt dizzy in the middle of Gee and I had to pull her out of the crowd. Tiffany's "Philippines, put it back on!" is the cherry on top (I feel for the SONEs who waited years for this ^^) Hyoyeon and Jessica were stunning in real life. Sooyoung was too thin. TTS looked the same. Sunny was so cute. Yoona is a goddess.
The concert was concluded with the announcement of the trip to Korea winner. We spent the night on Dee's place after that. Rewarding our totally battered bodies with a good sleep after the extremely long day.
Looking back, I did enjoy that night and my first Kpop concert experience ever. It taught me what I should expect, that there will always be worst case scenarios, that camping out is never a good idea, that you can meet friends even though you barely know each other, and that you can feel your absolute worst and the best feeling in your life in a day.
This is Kpop, this is my world, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
